I just read on the NCDOT website that a section of Eastfield will have a detour in about 6 weeks. I'm wondering how this will impact traffic. Anyone know?

Motorists will follow posted detour CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing a section of Eastfield Road near I-485 beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, weather permitting. This work is part of the Charlotte Outer Loop project, which will complete the final 5.7 miles of I-485 in northeast Mecklenburg County. The closure is necessary to install new drain pipes under the existing roadway, and to place asphalt in advance of opening the new location of Eastfield Road, which should take place in about six weeks. Traffic will be detoured approximately 3 miles from Eastfield Road to N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) to Hucks Road to Browne Road to DeArmon Road to Prosperity Church Road back to Eastfield Road. The $139.5 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2014. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit NCDOT: Travel & Maps or follow NCDOT on Twitter at NCDOT: Stay Informed with Twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website. To access it, type “m.ncdot.gov” into the browser of your smartphone. Then, bookmark it to save for future reference. NCDOT Mobile is compatible with the iPhone, Android and some newer Blackberry phones. For more information, please contact the resident engineer at (704) 845-1151. ***NCDOT***

Glad I know about this ahead of time! It is being done on a weekend, so it won't have as big of an effect as it would on a work day, but it is bound to be a mess! Plus that is a big detour!

Thank for posting this!

Is there ever a detour that impacts traffic in a good way? I think not.
