The Official Site of The Charlotte Checkers : News (http://www.gocheckers.com/fullstory.php?id=709 - broken link)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Checkers announced today that a portion of the proceeds from the season opener on Oct. 19 will go to help the families of the shooting victims at Moe’s Southwest Grill in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On Oct. 4, police say employees of Moe’s, Vinny Ferens, 36, and Jeff Maher, 34, were shot and killed by a former restaurant employee. Now, the Checkers are doing their part to help the families of the victims by donating a portion of proceeds from opening night ticket sales to the Moe’s Victims Memorial Fund which include the wife and three children of Ferens.

To purchase tickets, please go to The Official Site of The Charlotte Checkers : and click on the “group ticket/promo code” box on the main page. You will be directed to the Ticketmaster Monthly Calendar. By selecting the game on Oct. 19 against the Columbia Inferno and entering the code “MOES” in the box labeled “promotions and special offers,” half of your ticket price will go to help the victims’ families of this tragic event. You may also purchase tickets by calling 800-495-2295 and be sure to mention the Moe’s code at the beginning of the call.
