I am currently debating between a couple houses. One is in a subdivision between Monroe Rd. and Independence blvd and the other is off Lawning School rd. near Mountain Island, specifically in Windsong subdivision. Are these safe areas? I'm a single young man with a dog
Sounds like two entirely different areas. I live in the urban east side and it's mostly awesome for what I like. I've lived at the lake also and I enjoyed that too. Depends on what you value and the "purpose" of buying a house...
Abbots Glenn. Its like right behind that Ledo's. I love the townhomes there, but just curious as to what others think that live over there or have knowledge of it. I am buying to live there. The one in Mountain Island is off Lawning school rd. That area looks nice, kinda country, but a lot of low home values on the street I am thinking about, but I have heard that the whole 28214 zip code is struggling.

I live close to that area. The tax neighborhood for this area is the largest in the county and in 2011 reval we lost about 40% of the value. I expect that to change when it's re-worked. So basically the nicer areas in this very large tax neighborhood were unfairly treated by the reval and and now have lost their equity.
Might be good for you if you can take advantage of it before the tax values go up which I expect.

Village Lake Drive is not exactly what I'd call "the garden spot of suburbia".
Awesome! I really think thats the home I like but its just a matter of choosing between a townhome and a single family home. Plus this one was a former rental but that doesn't bother me. 2916 Westwinds Court, Charlotte NC - Trulia
Well then LOL! I see a couple vandalisms and looks like a vehicle theft and a robbery near Village Lake Drive. They seem recent... I would be lying if I didn't say I was concerned. I wonder if its more the apartment complexes around that area. I can't say I am totally turned off, but definately some things to think about. Is that average for living that close in the city? I currently live in Rock Hill SC and I know my area has had a few incidents, but nothing major.

Whoa, didn't know they were building them that small and cheap. Pre 2011 it had a tax value of about $100K so it's lost almost $40K in tax value.
It's been in foreclosure twice. Unbelievable that the bank is selling it below tax value considering how screwed up the tax value is for the area.
