We are originally from Boston but have lived in Florida for the past 4 years. We are checking out areas of Charlotte in a couple of weeks to possibly relocate to. In particular we are especially interested in Baxter Village in Fort Mill. I was just wondering if there are any transplants from New England in the Fort Mill area or if it is mostly people born and raised there. If you are a transplant how do you like Fort Mill?

It's transplant city. These suburban bedroom communities are almost all transplants. If you want something more connected to the local area and people, then I'd recommend moving to the actual old town of Ft. Mill or Rock Hill if you are looking to live in York county.
Thanks for the reply. We own a small business in Boston so my husband and I work from home. He however at some point would also like to open his own painting business. The reason I ask if there are many NE transplants in Fort Mill is because right now where we live in Florida we stick out like a sore thumb! The people are nice enough here but they are just so totally different from us that it's kind of hard to fit in. When we do move I'd love to be around like minded people and just feel like we belong. Basically we just want a nice, friendly, family oriented neighborhood with convenience to shops, restaurants, etc and of course good schools.
A budget number for a home and some requirements (4beds, lot size, etc) would be helpful as you can likely get what you're looking for around the city in many directions. SC will offer lower taxes and cheaper gas (as examples), but that may change if the NC legislature passes an elimination of income tax in NC (albeit raising sales tax). Additionally, in state college tuition is a serious consideration and one reason we chose to be in NC.
Either way, you have a wide variety of options based on what you've stated so far... "walkable" will be the biggest challenge if that's what made you like Baxter Village the most. In general all the outer suburbs are car dependent.
Thanks MikeyKid. We ideally would like a 3 bedroom home (or townhouse). Lot size really doesn't matter but a small yard would be nice. We would like our budget to stay in the low $200's. Baxter seeming to be so walkable was a big factor in us wanting to check that area out. Being originally from a big city it would be nice to have a little bit of the city feel in our own neighborhood.
