Can someone recommend a lawn company in the area.We had a few trees removed which pretty much choked the lawn with leaves and sweet gum balls.I,need a lawn company to come in aerate and reseed. There are plenty on Craigslist but I don't trust them.Another question is what type of seed is recommended for this area?
I took some soil samples and sent them out to be analyzed as well.

Broome Lawn and Lanscape

Broome Lawn & Landscape - Home

Small individually owned local business. 20+ years of operation. Owner stays current on all pesticide and lawn certifications. I am not affiliated with the business, but have used their services occasionally over the years.

DM me if there is no answer at the number listed on the website. I have the owner's cell number that has worked in past years when attempting to make contact.

I take care of my own lawn, but I suggest that you visit Organic Plant Health in Matthews.

Welcome to Organic Plant Health 626 W Charles St, Matthews · (704) 841-1000

I became a convert about 4 years ago after several years of poor results using typical fertilizers. I believe that they also have a division that will service your lawn or can recommend someone.

Without a doubt I am going to take care of the lawn myself, cutting ,i have all the equipement and took care of it up north, fertilizer etc.I just need to get it started, the grounds were poorly, kept, pretty much zero maintenance due to the amount of trees. Its all red clay right now.I am going to have to start from scratch .I just want it seeded and fertilized for the first time so I can establish a lawn.I know the grass is different down here as well. I will look into all these places and do some research.
Of what is the grass mix down here? I can't get a straight answer from any of my neighbors,I've been told,Rye and fescue? Does that sound right? Not much info on the net either all over the place.

DECORATIVE CREATIONS, INC.

I know someone who worked for this company during his college years. The owner had a very strict policy of making sure anyone he hired was a safe person to be on your property.

I'm using fescue & rye & it works just fine. My yard was a total disaster. I'm using short fescue & rye which you have to special order as a mix. Pennington does have a fescue & rye mix that is sold locally.

I use a fescue blend that I get from OPH...their price is competitive and they have blends that are a good fit for this area. Rye is good to give you quick coverage in cool weather, but won't make it in the summertime. There are some drought resistant blue-grass blends with fescue that I've seen. Your blend should match the amount of sun/shade that your lawn gets. You can also plant a warm season grass like Bermuda, but personally, I don't like the way it looks after it goes dormant in the winter.

When I first started with OPH, I called Billy Stiles and he came out (no charge), made recommendations and I followed their organic program. I don't mean to sound like a commercial for them, but I'm a very happy customer. http://www.organicplanthealth.com/Us...ter_080112.pdf

You should know that early fall (Sept) is the best time for aeration and seeding of cool season grasses (like fescue). Planting in the spring is problematic since the roots won't be deep enough to make it through the hot summer. Also, you need to put down 2 applications of crab grass pre-emergent starting in February. If you don't, you will have crab grass on steroids....I had to learn the hard way. Good luck!
