Hi all,
I like the idea of a large home (3k to 4k square feet), with high ceilings, but moving from a moderate climate (So. Cal.) I'm wondering what the AC bills run in the hot months of summer and the heat bills for the cool winters actually cost (keeping thermostat around 70 farenheit)? Thank you any and all for responses.

For a 4600 sq ft home my most recent heat bill was around $250. I wouldn't say it's been a terribly cold winter here, though. Heat doesn't run as much as it could if the temps were consistently around 30 or 40 degrees. We have several 50 and 60 degree days in the winter.

What is an "AC bill" or "heating bill"? Do people get bills for only one device in their home?

I took it to mean, what do you pay to run these devices throughout the year to keep it comfortable when the weather isn't. Hopefully this helps.

Our rental is about 3200 sq ft and our latest gas bill was $142 (we've had some cold nights/mornings recently). Our gas bill was around $30 until it hit December and we had some colder days. It was $91 in December, January was $93 and then Feb is $142. It will most likely go back down for March. Our highest AC bill in the summer was $175. Though it was usually around $160 per month until it hit those slew of 100 + days.

The house we own is right around 4500 sq ft and our AC bill in the hottest time in the summer was $250 and the gas bill for winter was around $200. We have 3 units one for each floor of the house. We didn't use the 3rd floor and kept that unit off. We have programmable thermostats on each floor. We kept the downstairs at 76 in the summer and 68/69 in the winter and didn't have the 2nd floor kick on until 8:30pm or so.

My house is close to 1700 Sq ft, not well insulated, on a crawl space, and a little over 30 years old. I have a (OLDDDD and very inefficient) gas water heater, a gas furnace (not sure the age on it) and a gas stove.

My first gas bill was $70 and most recent was $125.

OP asked about heating and AC bills. Unless someone has put a measuring device on the HVAC components, there is no way to know exactly what these components cost to run.

I get a gas bill and an electric bill. I use some of each type of power every month, and that amount varies. I do not get a heating or cooling bill. Are there heating and cooling bills I'm not aware of?

I think it is fairly clear what the OP meant.

Well, people have answered with what their gas and electric bills have been, which doesn't answer the supposed question. If I say my AC bill is $80 a month, that doesn't take into consideration all of the electrically powered devices in my home, does it?

Does your AC run in the winter? Does your heater run in the summer?
