No, it sure doesn't. This is trying to show ya care without really doing anything for that particular group. Pretty ridiculous really. Almost like camping out in the backyard of your house. I don't have to camp out in a box to have empathy for the homeless. How about talking to some of these people, hear their stories, how about trying to show them someone cares, in a non preachy, judgemental way. These kids would get far more from real interaction, than a sleep over at the church.
It would have been a greater learning experience looking through Chris Arnade's photo album of homeless people in the south Bronx and reading his commentary about the people he has gotten to know. He has a gift for making these people feel at ease, he snaps their pic, then goes back and gives it to them. He pays them a bit for being a model. But he has heard their stories and gotten to care about these people. Every one of his pics tells a story.
