911 Giving Info to Telemarketers?? (crimes, how much, lawyers)

Recently we had to call 911 in Union County for a neighbor. Less than 3 business days later, we get a call from the company that sells the "I've fallen and can't get up" life alert, trying to sell us their product. Coincidence or not? It wouldn't surprise me but, I would have to consider that a new low point in telemarketing.

Aren't 911 calls public records? Maybe there is some company trolling the records for "old people in trouble" type calls.

That's what I figured but, this just opens up a lot of questions about personnel and medical information . You always hear on the news about "911 calls not being released", I would assume that may be more the case for crimes. It just irked me getting the telemarketing call.

At one time, 911 info came from the telephone company since it's tied to a physical phone number. They don't use callerID. They use a more secure system call ANI (can't be blocked or affected by the caller) to get the calling # and that only comes from the telco.

I would not think that a telemarketer would have access to actual calls made unless they were being supplied by Union county.

Happens all the time though not sure in this case. I wouldn't think anyone is collecting raw 911 data and especially not that fast. But police reports for sure get parsed. That's how if you get a ticket you'll hear from lawyers and who knows if those car extended warranty companies get their stuff from the dealer of from the DMV.

Coincidence probably unless a formal report was done.

Union county actually list ALL their dispatch calls on a website. It will list names and addresses. Not so much phone numbers but it isn't hard to find once they have your name and address. When I lived there and was robbed, the sheriff was the one that directed me to the log online. I was a bit distressed to see how much info was included. Aah, I found that link:

I am not an expert, but I thought they were always available if they were requested through a FOIA type request. So the police may not release them to media unless the are specifically requested through a formal process.
