i am looking to take some sewing classes in the charlotte, gastonia, lincoln county area. does anyone know of someone that does private or group lessons for beginers? my husband got me a machine last year for christmas and i'd really like to be able to use it.
Where did he buy the machine from? If it was from a local sewing machine or fabric shop they usually offer a few basic lessons. If he bought it online or from a big box store check to see if there are any dealers in the area for your brand and if you could do lessons there (though you will have to pay if your machine was bought elsewhere). That is ideal because they will be familiar with your machine and will show you how to use its features specifically.
Otherwise, most fabric stores have basic classes. Some community colleges offer sewing classes as well, those will probably go a little bit further beyond the very basics.

Two good friends own sewing machine stores in Charlotte, and this is exactly what they do. Free lessons and service if you buy from them, paid lessons if you didn't.

Go to Mary Jo's & wander around. There are business cards from people who do sewing & who teach sewing. If you don't see what you want just ask employees. They are very helpful.
It might be a bit of a drive but.... Future Fashion Designers in downtown Mooresville. The teacher Shawnelle is great. Check out the website futurefashiondesigners.com
