Disclaimer: I don't have any first hand knowledge. I don't have any children. I didn't attent a CMS school.
I don't know why some schools perform worse than others. I'm sure that there are other posters here that can provide a good anaysis of the various factors involved. I think sometimes CMS gets a bad rap.. According to CMS stats the district has over 100,000 children in 163 schools. There are "bad apples" in every bunch. There are many great schools with great students and teachers.
WOW...Did You Know? (http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/discover/wow.pdf - broken link)
i love the communties for charlotte but why some of the schools don't match the quality of some of the communties.
You will actually find this to be the case no matter where you live. I live in the Tampa Bay area right now and the schools are hit or miss in most counties...Pinellas and Hillsborough do have some great schools but it totally depends on the area. So I think that you have to look at the individual schools not the entire school system.
Because of the crazy lawsuits that CMS endured in the early 2000's and the forced busing and demographic disbursements of the students and the lottery system.
You can research the schools online, the designated title 1 schools are usually in less desierable neighborhoods and have high incidences of children receving free .
Every school system in america has this problem, has a huge impact on schooling
