Hi,

Anyone know what is slotted for the two pieces of land that are sold/under contract along Providence in Waxhaw? One is on the west side next to Fifth Third Bank and the other is opposite that before Lowe's. Potentially exciting stuff for this small town!!??

I don't know what it is but I am equally curious! We have been in Waxhaw for a year and love it, but I would like to see more development down 16!

Not me. I'm all for progress around us but I'd prefer to see Waxhaw keep its small town charm without so many "centers" popping up. It will be like Fort mill (which is a nice place but busier than Waxhaw) if we continue to "progress".

I'm ready to see more here in Waxhaw. I love the equestrian feel of this town while driving on the back roads but I think we need more on the main roads like providence. We need more businesses here - specifically a target and a trader joes would be nice!

Why? There are 2 targets 15 min ne or west of town?

People live in Waxhaw to get away from commercial overdevelopment. For those needing a daily Target, Best Buy, etc. fix, Ballantyne offers plenty of walking-distance options.

Really, Target???

I hope we can get a Trader Joe to anchor the plaza (to be built hopefully soon) on Providence & New Town Rd.

I prefer to keep the small town character/aspect of Waxhaw - although I realize it will be almost impossible with increased population...

That's not why everyone lives in Waxhaw. Some do for the cheaper house prices and better schools. And I wouldn't walk on Rt 16 for all the money in the world! Unless there's major improvements, much of it doesn't have sidewalks.

Laura, the previous poster was saying that Ballantyne has walkable options close by versus making Waxhaw into a small Ballantyne. Good schools will go away with progress and over population. As the town continues to grow and brings more and more people, we will become a smaller metropolis outside of Charlotte and the schools and area will go downhill, IMO.

I am all for keeping Waxhaw's "Small Town Feel" and I love downtown, but seeing some commercial growth north of town on 16 isn't necessarily a bad thing. I have no issues with bringing in a few "bigger" restaurants (ie, Hickory Tavern or something along those lines...no more fast food!) to the area. A target would be nice as well. If St. Matthew Catholic Church builds the proposed South Campus at Waxhaw - Marvin Rd and Kensingtion, that may spark a little more growth as well in the general area.
