Are there any homeless shelters in Charlotte that take direct donations? Maybe a women's shelter? I have a significant amount of clothes I'd like to donate and would rather they go directly to the less fortunate than to a goodwill. They are mostly size S-M women's clothes.
Crisis Assistance runs a free store for anyone in need. The women staying at the Center of Hope, a homeless shelter for women, can get clothing for themselves & their kids there.
Do the same with financial donations, strait to shelter management. Most non-profits and people who do public fund-raisers mismanage collections, and in a lot of cases even spend the money and write it off as non-profit business expense. This happens a lot around middle to upper class neighborhoods. The money never even makes it into any system..
Yeah, I'd NEVER give to Goodwill...Last time I went into one of their stores, saw 4 bike helmets and 2 were broken which rendered them unfit and yet GW STILL wanted $4.95 for them. I complained to the manager who said "Well, you don't HAVE to buy them"...
I give to Goodwill... it's just easier than offering free stuff on CraigList and handling the flakes who don't show up, re-posting the ad, etc.
