I know many people post about relocating questions. But, why not get the information from those who have first hand experience

I am a 45 year old single lady with an 8 year old daughter, and a 20 year old son who will be moving with me.
We currently live in Virginia, and I am considering relocating to Charlotte. The crime here is increasing and the area is just becoming worn and unappealing. I hear it is an up and coming suburb city with good job opportunities as well. I am a registered nurse, in management, and in conducting research, it appears that field is fairly stable with enough opportunities.
Does anyone have advice regarding this being a place for a 45 year old single woman who occasionally enjoys the night life, and events that will allow mingling and meeting people like myself who like to have fun, but are stable and mature.
I am seeking newly built housing communities in a decent suburban area, that are in the price range of no more than about $195,000. Hopefully a little less, but I can swing that!
Also how are the Charlotte school systems?
Any suggestions for low crime area?
Thanks so much for any help
