LOVE IT. Been here 5 years and want to live nowhere else. We do live in Fort mill for the better public schools but we are 20 min from Charlotte.

I'll second FeltDesigner's ratings but would put cleanliness at 4 or maybe even 3. Charlotte does have a lot of dumpy areas with trash on the sides of the road and weeds that could stand some trimming. There are neighborhoods with a lot of rentals in them that need window trims painted and gutters blown. Charlotte is not a "Cary" with a wide middle class that looks after every corner of the city.

If you spend all your time in South CLT and uptown then you could think it scores a 5.

Mostly agreeing with Felt

scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being great and 1 being poor

1: Friendliness. 4 out of 5 (if that kind of thing is important to you. It is not to me)
2: Cleanliness. 4 out of 5
3: Weather. 5 out of 5
4: Southerness. 3 out of 5
6: food. 2 out of 5 (everything is a chain. It is very difficult to find mom & pop places that are not pricey or anywhere other than S. Charlotte)
7: schools. no comment. I hear CMS is horrible but I have no kids.
8: southern culture. 3 out of 5

The weather is the #1 reason that I live here.

Lets get an ex-Charlotters opinion shall we

1. 3 no less or more friendly than anywhere else

2. 5 cleanest city (proper) I have ever seen

3. 2 weather this year seems to have been great but most years ...yuch. No snow in winter another minus

4. 4 found it very southern if you like that sort of thing you'll love it

5. 3 schools very average but ranging from very good to very poor..like most places

6. southern culture 3 ?

Edit: Food! 3 some good local places..
