My boyfriend and I are planning to move to Charlotte or the surrounding area in mid-January, but we aren't sure of where. We're both in our mid-20's and want to live in a growing area. I'm a pharmacist for Walgreens so I can pretty much go anywhere. He is planning on either opening a chiropractic practice or joining someone else's practice. We don't really have a clue where to go. We don't want to live in the middle of the city, but we don't want to live too far away. Anyone have any suggestions?

We currently live in St. Louis, MO. We would like to rent or lease a condo or townhome for a short period of time until we find a place to settle and buy a home. We are looking for an area that is friendly to newcomers and has residents in our age range. We still like to go out but not nearly as much as we used to! My boyfriend is an avid golfer and I want to be in close proximity to a mall! A growing area would be great because we both like new development.

Definitely rent first so you can make your best choice about what areas you like the best. South Park is a nice location for renting b/c it's a short drive from uptown. We moved into Post Park at Phillips Place when we first moved to town.

My husband and I are trying to pinpoint an area also. I googled Charlotte neighborhoods and came up with this.....

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://ww.charmeck.org/qol/cwac_files/cwac_names_html.gif&imgrefurl=http://ww.charmeck.org/qol/cwac.htm&h=816&w=720&sz=23&hl=en&start=2&um=1&tbni d=hB_bGEyTsmeg8M:&tbnh=144&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcharlotte%2Bneighborhoods%26svnum%3D1 0%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX

Of course this is just a bigger puzzle, but MAYBE someone can try and help us pinpoint an area.

Shanrx- I would recommend Birkdale up in Huntersville, you would be able to walk to a Walgreens and there are bars and restuarants all in a stone throw away. Southpark is also great close to everything.

Sounds good to me.....Uptown also would have lots of folks in your age range.....average age is 25-35

So I'm pretty sure we are going to rent. We have a small dog and we really want something with a fenced in back yard if at all possible. Does anyone know of any duplexes or townhomes with rent $800-$1000 per month in any of the areas that were already suggested to us. These areas sound just like something that we want.

I recommend checking out the Steele Creek area as well. It has a lot of new development, is close to uptown, Carolina Place Mall and South Park Mall. There are a lot of townhomes in the area.

I recommend that you rent close to the area where you'll eventually want to buy a home. You could start by driving through the areas that are convenient to the Walgreens locations in Charlotte, and then start narrowing down from there. We have have an overview of the different areas in Charlotte on our web site: Charlotte Real Estate Areas (http://www.charlotte-eba.com/charlotte-real-estate-areas.html - broken link) , but the area you choose will also depend on which Walgreens you'll be working at.
