Decided to try Tivo/Hulu/Netflix instead of Directv after 20 years. I live in South Charlotte, Weddington area. I started with indoor antenna to test and got 18 channels. Then just installed Channel Master CM4228HD in attic after much research. Now I get 28 channels. My problem is dropouts for only channel 9.1 ABC WSOC. I don't understand why I only have a problem with this one station. I could not get it at all with the indoor antenna. I have the attic antenna pointed right at it. Any ideas? thank you.

Channel 9 should be one of the stronger stations, since their tower is located in north Charlotte. However, your antenna is picking up stations that have their antenna to the southwest of Charlotte. You might try turning the antenna slightly so that it is orientated a little more toward the northwest. Keep in mind that could also affect the other stations' signals and you could get dropouts.

An 8 bay pointed at WSOC from Weddington should get a rock solid signal. I suspect there is some sort of issue in your attic/setup that is either interfering with the signal, or you are getting a lot of multipath reflections that are overriding the signal.

(I'm assuming you have it pointed at the E. CLT antenna farm and not their studio)

Without knowing more about the details of your setup, it's difficult to say what is wrong.

I live in a totally different direction, but also have problems with 9.1, however 9.5 is rock solid. 9,2 is AccuWeather. Have you stepped up on the channel select to see if there's another subchannel?

If you are picking up 9.5 then you are receiving WSOC from their translator in Kings Mountain. This location would not be receivable in Weddington due to it's low power.

They will sometimes put these translator signals on different subchannel markers so the TV doesn't get confused if by chance the main signal can be received too.

Barfsa, I'm aware that there's a translator on Crowders Mountain. I don't know, & really don't care if there are 2 other translators broadcasting as 9.3 & 9.4, but I threw it out just in-case.

ETA: I don't have, need, or want the Cyrilic alphabet on my keyboard so I checked & substituted an f for the Cyrillic symbol in your screen name.

It's not a translator/subchannel. There is only one broadcast signal/location. The "channels" are virtual and all multiplexed on the same digital stream within that signal. It won't help to search subchannels for better reception because it's still the same signal.

There is only one RF signal on the main tower in CLT, and only one signal on the translator at Kings Mountain. Needless to say someone in CLT/Mecklenburg should be using the main tower. Looking for additional subchannels, won't help.

I'm aware of that, but I was trained to talk to non-technical people on the phone. The average person sees subchannels & doesn't know or care how they're sent. They care if they can pick them up on their receiver. There are no other subchannels would have been sufficient for the OP.

I find it just miraculous that you are the third poster who likes to go on about this topic & aim it over the average poster's head. Really, it's a miracle.

My advice to the OP was to look for issues with his antenna where the problem most likely lies. If he reads this and wishes to give more information there are people here, including myself that will help him address this issue.

My discussion with you involves the bad advice to look for 9.5. It doesn't exist in Mecklenburg. You would not tell this to a novice (or average person as you put it) because when they couldn't find it, it would lead them to unnecessary concern. In Mecklenburg there is only 9.1 & 9.2. My concern is to make sure they don't look for something that doesn't apply.

I did not say to look for 9.5, but to check to see if there was another subchannel. I don't work at WSOC or I would know whether or not there were other transponders. I was trained to answer questions from viewers in plain English & handled most of the viewer calls when I was on duty. If talking down to me makes you feel like a big man, knock yourself out. I realize that there is technical information out there for the stations but I have other things that take up my time. This is the first post that I've seen concerning WSOC.

Other people had suggested that he tweak the antennae placement. Since I also have 9.1 going in & out, I offered a suggestion in good faith.

Like I said, what a miracle. . .first lumbollo, then frewroad & now you, Barfsa.
