Atlantans still can't accept the fact it lost to Charlotte at something.

The link is to a thread in the Atlanta forum, where it seems as if the Hall of Fame was simply built in Atlanta, none of this would have ever happened.

I really don't see why the idea for a NASCAR museum in Uptown Charlotte was approved anyways. If they expected these attendance and money figures, it should have been built at the Speedway.

Charlotte and the Carolinas is the home of NASCAR, so it made sense to build it here. But, it probably would have done better in Atlanta from an attendance standpoint, as the Atl is more of a tourist destination with more attractions. May not have been losing money in Atlanta.

It would have lost money in ATL as well, Nascar's popularity has dipped and came on line during the great recession. I guess Charlotte isn't the only city with thin-skin when it comes to losing, cities like Atlanta and Charlotte are accustomed to getting what they want, lol, some sour grapes in Atlanta. Charlotte needs an additional feature downtown (toursity) to bundle with the NHOF. I'm still not sure why none of the larger cities in NC havw a large aviation museum. Sure, first in flight was in Kitty Hawk but an aviation museum in one of the larger metros would draw more visitors...location near the NHOF would definitely pique folks interest to visit the area and boost sales for the NHOF. Basically, when the economy gets a little stronger, Charlotte should pursue a BFF for the NHOF.

It probably would have done better by the race track.

I agree with this.

Its not the city, but its distance from where those interested in the subject matter are likely to be. MIght as well build a museum to the Panthers out by CMS.

hopefully they'll transform the building to host another attraction...something that the tourist/locals would actually be interested to see...

It might do better a few days of the year, when CMS has major events, but other than that there is no reason to drive out there.

That was my point, up the ante with another attraction tailored to a broader audience that will bolster attendance at the NHOF via a bundle package. I don't think repurposing the building is an option nor should it be.

Austincool this was also brought to your attention Quote

It's a Charlotte based company with an Atlanta publication. "Atlanta" didn't write the article. The editor of the the ABC did and clearly there is a local interest given the history of the Nascar HOF competition. Its also not uncommon for significant business stories having nothing to do with Atlanta to appear in the Atlanta paper. For ex: Nashville's Ovation project was in this week's paper

I don't see Alabama, Richmond, Kansas City, Detroit, or Daytona Beach talking about it. It's obvious the poster who started the thread in the Atlanta forum had the expectation to assume it would've been more successful in Atlanta because of the tier you put yourself on.
