Just curious, but are there any plans to widen I-77 in Southwest Charlotte? I know there's discussion/debate on the widening of I-77 north of uptown, up to Iredell County, with the use toll lanes, but I have not heard of any talk of doing the same (with either general purpose or toll lanes) in Southwest Charlotte. I'm guessing if they do widen I-77, they'll have to completely redo most of the overpasses, since there isn't any room for expansion.

This is a major part of the problem with any widening of I-77 from the John Belk down to the stateline. Also it isn't most of the overpasses; they would have to replace all the bridges over I-77 if they went to 4 or more lanes in each direction.

Right now I don't see them widening I-77 anytime soon (will be 20 years or more before they decide to do something and by then it will need to be 5 lanes in each direction).

Although it scored higher than other projects placed in the projected 2016-2025 time frame, it is anticipated that planning for this project will take longer than others because of the complexity.
