I was wondering when you go to apartment complexes where there is a person on site paid by a management company, are you dealing with a licensed real estate agent? Or is it because they are working for a management company they do not have to be licensed? I have stopped in a few looking for an apartment for my father in law and they do not seem to be as professional as some of the agents I have met. Also if they are not licensed are they bound by the disclosure rules licensed agents are?

Unless the person tells you they are a licensed broker, most leasing agents are not. Real Estate license law in NC does not require a leasing agent to be a licensee; however, if the property manager is the owners agent he/she must have a real estate license. A property manager who is the owners employee, is not required to have a license.

Hope this helps.
