Hi All,

I am relocating to Charlotte because of a job change. I would be working in west Charlotte area. After reading wonderful posts, I assume west is not a great place to live with family. i have a 4 year old kid who goes to a preschool and later this year would go to Pre-K. I am looking for an apartment where I can get both good preschool for now and a good rated elementary school for later. I am most concerned about schooling and a safe place.

Bellantyne and Fort mill , both are approx. 14-15 miles from my office and hence can consider any of these area. Please help me finalizing a good area.

You couldn't go wrong with either. Ballantyne is more appealing.

I would not work in W. Clt and commute all the way to Ballantyne or S.C. You must be made of money for Gas! Or it must not be an issue, since you'll have it like that. Normal residents advise against this. I'm surprised they have not come out of the woodwork. LoL

You should be checking out zip codes: 28216 and 28208 on ApartmentRatings or House Rentals on CraigsList.West Charlotte has a new boom, up and coming professional atmosphere.
I assume you'll be getting off of work around the 5:00 hour, so....hitting up I-77 between 5 and 6:30 is not advisable, if you want to maintain your sanity.

Belmont and Mount Holly are easier commutes into west Charlotte than either Ballantyne or Fort Mill, if you don't want to be in the city and if you're satisfied with Gaston County schools. Cost of living is reasonable too.

Thanks Gemini for your reply. How much time does it take to reach West charlotte ( 9510 Coliseum Centre Drive, Charlotte, NC) from Bellantyne or Fort mIll ?
I keep hearing , West not being the safest place to live and also I keep hearing Bellantyne and Fort mill are the best school districts.

Please advice.

ZIP : 28208 is very near to my office..just like 5.5 miles. How is this area, is it safe for a family ? How are the schools in this area ?
And does this area comes under - West clt ?

Seeing as though you'll be working off West Tyvola, I'd suggest the Steele Creek area. The commute is reasonable and the schools are good from what I understand; it's a popular area for families with school-age children.

You wouldn't find zip 28208 to be desirable.

Ballantyne and Fort Mill (particularly Fort Mill) wouldn't be that bad of a commute to that area, definitely under 30 minutes from Fort Mill most days, probably a little longer from Ballantyne as 485 can be a mess.

Steele Creek is probably a good suggestion, IIRC their elementary schools are rated better than their high school. Other areas of South Charlotte inside 485 are probably worth looking into as well.
