Just moved from downtown to the Ballantyne area to be close to work. Some of my close friends have just relocated further south, and I have one friend in Matthews. I also have another friend moving to Fort Mill, which I might visit often.

Where do all the 20-somethings hang out in that area?

I like craft brews, live music, and dive bars. I know the south side is very corporate, but anyone got any suggestions? Would appreciate it! Thanks.

There are a few bars not far from South Park if that helps, one is called Hefs that I personally recommend.

Vintners is slammed most of the weekend but is generally 30+. Still would recommend as 20 somethings wouldn't feel out of place. Not a dive though but awesome beer list.

+1 on the Lodge. Live music, "dive bar feel" and good beer list. Again crowd is 30+ but you wouldn't feel out of place.

I used to live in the Ballantyne area and, in my experience, it's slim pickings. That area is very suburban and family oriented. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but my wife and I (both in our 20s) found it terribly boring. I know Cosmos off of Rea road it pretty packed on the weekends but that crowd is usually a little older crowd. You can try Fox & Hound in Ballantyne and Hickory Tavern off of Johnston Road.

Good luck!

That would be my best guess as well. There is also a bar/burger joint at the intersection of 521/Lancaster Highway where I got some takeout one time and the waitress said that place was kicking on Friday and Saturday nights. Sorry I can't remember the name of the place. The Cru Wine bar is packed on weekends but for sure with the 40+ crowd. My impression was all the kicking bars for 20-somethings were in Uptown Charlotte but I am not really sure since I don't do the neon that much.

Nowhere (in South Charlotte) that comes to mind.

Fort Mill or Pineville or Matthews I would imagine have some bars/hang outs?
