The market for account/finance folks isn't great in the area. There's quite a bit of competition.
I'm intimately aware of a large company in the Charlotte metro area that has recently undergone restructuring and has laid off dozens of finance & accounting employees (among many other professions.) Many of those affected are struggling to find work and several ended up with very long commutes with their new jobs.
Some non-banking companies to consider: Electrolux, Rubbermaid, Scott Safety (Tyco), Parker Hannifin, Doosan (Statesville), Nascar Teams, Britax (Fort Mill), MSC (Davidson), Duke Energy, Siemens, Ingersoll Rand, etc.
Are you a CPA? Do you have a MACC or MBA? Are you looking private/public sector? Salary range? I have been contacted over 10 times in the past two weeks about several job openings in the area but I am happy where I am. I would be more than willing to pass along information to some of these recruiters but I need more background.
There is an accounting/finance recruiter on every corner in Charlotte. Swing a stick and pick any of them. They all claim to have the inside track for jobs. There are very few companies who use one recruiter to fill a job, if they use a recruiter at all. Companies love to collect resumes in order to tell the government that they have open positions, when in reality, they don't.
You're competing with mostly leased office LLCs who do mostly international and out-of-state contracts. Unless you're talking about a role in a company then they want MBAs and CPAs just out of another position with years of experience.
I do see Charlotte based start-ups making think tanks out of fresh MBA grads. They are mostly internet and sports marketing based. I worked for one as a developer for some years..
I assume you have already work the field or are social enough to negotiate into being hired. If you are a new grad who is socially awkward or you're coming back into the field, you're going into a major struggle..
