If you can find a house that you like for $600,000 in Elizabeth, I would go for it. A friend of mine (I think I mentioned her situation earlier) lives in Eastover and commuted to UNCC via I-77 while her kids were at Country Day. She had a carpool, so didn't have to do the school-run every day, but she often commented on her smooth trip to the university on I-77 because she went against the traffic. (In fact she got speeding tickets once in a while because she traveled so fast.) From Elizabeth you would be traveling a similar route: against the traffic to both Country Day and to Mooresville. It would be a long day for you, however, and 10 years of it (until daughter can drive) icould get very long. Country Day does have a bus from Providence Road, however. This would help. The more I think about it the better it gets. If your wife were to do the school run, it would be very easy. Then you would have a wide choice of neighborhoods in your price range. I personally would choose Elizabeth (or Plaza-Midwood, for that matter) from which you could easily hop on I-77 for Mooresville.

Good luck with your decisions.

And once again I agree with Barb I LOVE Elizabeth and it would be a fantastic central location for school and your job - HOWEVER, getting a home there for under $700,000 is getting tougher and tougher. I would say to check out Elizabeth's next door neighbor, Chantilly, for a great home in that price range
