I'll be relocating to the Charlotte area within a few weeks. I'll be living in Kannapolis and commuting to the Elizabeth area near Uptown for work. I am unfamiliar with the area, so I need honest opinions on the Kannapolis area. How drastic is the commute during the weekdays (7AM-3P) ? How are the locals in the Kannapolis area?

Areas of Kannapolis are pretty nice. Other areas of Kannapolis are not. It’s hard to give insights with no idea where you will actually be in the area, what you are coming from or expecting it to be.

If you have reasonably quick access to I-85 you’ve probably got a 30-45ish minute commute to the Elizabeth area.

I’m not sure how to quantify “how” the locals are. Pretty much the same as any town in this area.

Our son bought a house in Kannapolis a couple years ago. He loves it. He's within walking distance to the new baseball field, he'll ride his bike, walk his dog, enjoy the restaurants at/near the ball field. There are a lot of non-commercial restaurants. Some run-down areas, but the city is re-building and his taxes that went up are proof of that....lol I don't think your commute will be that bad, now, as more growth moves in it could get worse.

DT Kannapolis is being gentrified or updated and has great potential with new restaurants, brewery, umerous clothing shops and new baseball stadium for A kannapolis team. There is new I fill in Kannapolis and several old vacant homes have been torn down. Home prices are some of the most reasinable in Charlotte metro. Ther are new apartments and retail has been improving. Concord Mills is a sort drive away and Concord is nearby. I agree that the commute is not bad and 30-45 as somrone has already suggested.

You won't regret Kannapolis! It's still early in it's growth but once they finish downtown and get rid of some of the old houses it's going to be prime
