20 years from now, SouthEnd, Uptown, NoDa, Plaza & Midtown will feel so cohesive, extremely integrated and like a single destination. Whenever All these areas feel like a single destination, Charlotte will have arrived and be in the big leagues.

Not sure if that's possible as long as 277 is still there...

Only to SouthEnd, with a Cap over 277 that would fix it... BUT... I am not supportive of a capping of 277. I think despite 277, SouthEnd will integrate nicely with uptown. I think the Cap is the only thing I have not supported as far as capital projects go.
277 doesn't seem an issue at all as far as Midtown goes. Mostly due to the fact that I277 flys above that area:
The Skyhouse block has a plan for another Skyhouse and an office building. Rumor is that they are starting on the second Skyhouse right after the first one is completed, and then the office building.
Also, another apartment tower is in the works at the Levine Museum of the New South block. All of these buildings will definitely make an impact on the skyline heading north. Add in the several other towers planned, and those will add significant density (Epicenter hotel, SREE hotel, 300 S Tryon office, Portman office, Crescent office tower, and the condo tower at 3rd and Poplar).
I believe 4 of those towers are for sure starting construction within the next 6 months.
