Okay. I know that this is strange, but I just saw that one can now include used pizza boxes in his recycling bin. Until recently, it was strictly verboten.

Can someone explain why they were banned in the first place, and what has changed?

The grease stains (animal fat) on the boxes could not be removed during the recycling process.

Can you recycle them with all trash companies? I know what you can and cannot recycle varies for different companies when it comes to plastics.

The Charlotte Solid Waste Services has a bold, emphatic announcement about it.

Ah, I learned some things in that link. Here I thought plastic bags could be recycled.

My neighbors appreciate that I "recycle" plastic bags when I walk my dogs!

Seriously though, I read that most of our recycled material gets sold to China, who then ends up trashing almost 90% of it because it hasn't been cleaned properly or is the wrong type of material. What a shame.
