Hey All,
I'm looking to relocate from the Washington DC area this spring, and am currently looking at the Huntersville area. I'd like to rent for 6-12months to become more familiar with the area. Via the internet I've looked at several apt complexes that look very upscale but are extremely reasonably priced, in the huntersville/UNCC area. (for example, 8230 greenway village drive charlotte nc). im surprised by the low cost of living in the 77-85-73 triangle- is this an unsavory area? Perhaps Im just used to the out of control DC prices.

Thanks for any opinions!

Definitely nothing wrong with that area. Those apartments are fairly new. You should do fine anywhere in that area.

Apartments with a Huntersville address would be your best bet and in a better area. If I were looking for an apartment in the UNC Charlotte area with a Charlotte address, I would suggest you stay in the 28269 ZIP code off of Harris Blvd/Mallard Creek Rd area.

Good LUck!

You can get a nice rental home in Huntersville for around $1100 and there are some great apartment complexes right next to Birkdale Village. It's a really convenient location, right off of exit 25.

Definitely doesn't have to have a Charlotte address, I'm really open. The only reuqirement is that it's in a nice area (I'd like to be north of Charlotte bc of the lake) and I'd like to keep rent to $1400/month at the most. Given those parameters, any suggestions? Thanks for all of your help so far!

Closest Charlotte address ZIP code to the lake would be 28269 and is safe.

Huntersville address is even safer and closer to the lake and still and easy 15 minute drive Uptown non rush hour.

Cornelius is another option and very safe and on the lake and 20 minutes to Uptown non rush hour.

My gf and I have lived in 28269 for the last 7 months as she goes to UNCC as a commuter taking 5 classes. The commute is fine to the school, traffic is fine if you go down mallard creek church road instead of harris blvd to get to school. The neighborhood is very safe, and there are even many nice homes in the winding streets behind our apt complex. 1400 is funny. We have a 2 bedroom that is brand new with all high-end appliances, high ceilings, fireplace etc and we only pay 840 a month. I think THE MOST EXPENSIVE you'll find is if you get a 3 bdrm apt or townhome which would still not be over 1200 a month. And utilities are a joke compared to CT prices. We paid 22 for electric last month and 17 for gas. In CT this time of year I would have paid around 120 dollars combined for those two utilities.

PM me if you need more info. We checked out a good 10 apts in this area before we chose this one, they were all wonderful and it was a really hard decision.

Should I be concerned 28269 is so close to the Derita neighborhood?

Not if you stay on the Harris Blvd / Mallard Creek Rd area.

Derita is not bad compared to many other sections of Charlotte.

Live NORTH of Harris Blvd or right on Harris Blvd and you will be fine.

28269 also includes Sunset Rd, where I would not suggest personally.

Hello....If you are looking for a rental home in the University Area, I have one that has just become available. It is located in the Davis Lake Community, and seems to be in your price range. If you are interested, I will be happy to send you additional information and photos. :-)
