Just wondering what the latest timeline was to complete the construction of the additional lanes of I-485 in South Charlotte.

Thanks.

Thanks.
NCDOT says it should be completed by December 4 2014 on their website.

Good. Some people do not get the concept to slow down. Just zoom on by going 80 at night when the lights are one and crews are working.

WSOC TV reported last night that it may be closer to the end of December, and it is weather permitting.

They were supposed to be postponed because of the weather. Asphalt does not like cold temps I guess.

Read an article today that said lanes should be opened in Dec (didn't specify a date) but the final finish of asphalt won't be applied until March when the weather warms up enough. At least they'll get the roads open, even if its not the smoothest ride.

Is it 2 additional lanes per side (or just 1)?

From I-77 to Johnson Road, they will be widening I-485 to have space for two extra lanes on both side. But, you will not be able to access two of the lanes, as they will be saved for toll lanes in the near future. For now, they'll serve as shoulders for the inner median. From Johnson Road to Rea Road, they are only widening for one extra lane on each side.

There is a future project that will "finish" I-485 in South Charlotte, and continue the project out to Independence Blvd. This means I-485 will be an eight lane freeway from I-77 to US 74, with two of those lanes being toll lanes (there will also be auxiliary lanes too, which are partial lanes that "connect" two exits/ramps together).
