I live in New York City and I am thinking about moving to Charlotte mainly to buy a home. I am concerned that the culture shock and lifestyle will be very difficult to live on a daily basis.
I would like to hear from Northeast transplants from the New York/New Jersey area who are living in Charlotte. How do you like living in this city? What are the things that you have trouble living with? How are northerners received?
We're not a third world country. We speak english. We have families, jobs and hobbies just like folks from New Jersey.
If your parents had to pick you up early from summer school because you got too "homesick", or if you had to drop out of college and attend community college in your hometown because you were too far from your parents, then you may have a hard time living *anywhere* away from your habits.
Otherwise, it's still life... you just have to plan your meals a little further in advance.
Generally; they are treated better if they don't act like refugees seeking asylum in the land of milk and honey or brave pioneers conquering the frontier.
Culture shock? Now? Twenty-five years ago, one might have experienced culture shock, but much of the Charlotte population is comprised of yahoo northerners and Californians who sold their 1200 square foot bungalows for a half a million dollars and moved here in search of high-paying jobs and cheap housing.
Alas, the cheap housing, high-paying jobs (outside of the banking industry), and native Charlotteans are no more.
Come on down! Have a bagel and a smoothie and witness a one-car accident on your way to work!

I was going to say that. Dang.
Yeah. For some, relocating to Charlotte and settling into a job is almost a gladiatorial experience.
There are tons of people from the Northeast (and elsewhere for that matter) in Charlotte (and as has been said, tons of threads on this topic already). If you can stand being a flight or full day car ride away from your family and as long as you don't complain about the pizza, bagels (there are some good places anyway to get those anyway), the fact that you don't have everything imaginable a short subway/cab ride away or the fact that not everyone is in a huge rush to get everywhere you'll be fine.
That being said, I think most of the people from the NY area here are from North Jersey or Long Island and not necessarily NYC itself so they basically were already living in the suburbs. Charlotte is not NYC...for one you will probably want to have a car.
I see OP is being offered $100K to move out of an apartment they don't even own. Must be nice.

Err don't have a bagel...you can't find any here. But smoothies are delish.
Pssst Larry, NY is famous for their bagels!
