What are your options living in the area?

I enjoy playing in hold 'em tournaments specifically.

Slots mean Cherokee or making a haul out of state.
Hold 'em tournaments are big around here but they are private. If you can find a way in, they are great and very well run. I only know of 10 to 100 dollar buy ins and I'm sure they go higher, you just need to find the right people.

MikeyKid, I'm a huge hold'em fan and have been jonesing for a good game...you know, nothing crazy. Try and google "charlotte meet up group".

the closest casino for HOLD'EM is the boat by Myrtle Beach. Cherokee only has video poker and no table games. As sunny said you have very conservative lawmakers in the area and things aren't changing anytime real soon.

Right now I'm getting my fix online at Pokerstars so I can keep sharp for any live tournaments I play.

If you hear of anything, send me a PM.

With you... one of things I'm going to miss is my regular game with the guys. I know of a couple of "country club" type games like lyn2shoes mentions from buddy and if I get any details, I'll PM you - pls do likewise.

I can't seem to get into the online play - I have a Pokerstars acct, too. I just find it boring over the long haul. I agree that it's good practice for playing proper position poker, but I still lose interest fast. heh

I've played in several WPT qualifiers in Foxwoods and Borgata - just missed making the main event once... it's so wild to see all the Pros from TV. Lots of fun sitting in those big famous poker rooms a table or 2 away from big names. Good stuff.

I agree, online does get a little boring sometimes when your constantly grinding it out at the low limit tourneys. But its real money and there are so many bad players at some of those games so you can increase your bankroll over the long haul.

That must be pretty cool to play in those satellites and see the "big names" we all see on TV. I've prob only played a total of 10 "live" tournaments in LV and AC combined over the past 2-3 years. Avg buy ins were 80-100. Did actually pretty well. Final tabled two of those (1 was in the Rio last year; approx 110 people, finished 6th (the top 3 chopped the pot) and final tabled a $60 buy in (no addons) at the trop in AC around thanksgiving...top 5 chopped the prize money..took home approx $700.... Even if you don't win, its still a great rush to play live.

nice results, you should try your luck in a big one... if you can pull it off, I would highly recommend that you play in a WPT satellite, here's the upcoming schedule:

Poker On World Poker Tour - Live Tournament Information, Schedule, Results. Season 6

Regular stop at Foxwoods and Borgata every year... both places have awesome poker rooms. You can easily find 250+ satellites that offer seats directly into the 10k buy-in main event. If you want to be a bit more conservative, you can enter a 100 buy-in and win your way up into another satellite that offers direct seats. There's a buzz in the air that is hard to explain.

I'm getting crazy thinking about it. lol

I have heard about the Cherokee Casio. Where exactly is it? Is it worth going there from Charlotte just to pull the slots for a little bit?

I would not go just to go pull slots and you can see here where it is located
Western NC Map . If you do make the trip I would plan other activities for you to do during your visit like visiting the reservation or kayak over in Chattanooga.

Gambling/Casinos is one thing we miss about living in the Denver, Colorado metro area. We were only an hour drive up into the foothills of the Rockies to some very nice Casinos that were almost like Las Vegas type casinos, but were Indian owned (Black Hawk). They had slots, video poker, black jack and poker tables, but no craps tables or Shows. On the way here from Colorado, we did stop at a casino along the Missouri River in Kansas City (had to become a member), and another casino in Missouri by the Mississippi River. The second casino, by the "mighty Mississippi" was shaped like a Showboat and we had to become a member in order to play the slots. There was a nice motel we stayed at just across a parking lot from this Casino. We love playing slots and, sometimes, my wife will get into a poker tournament. She loves playing poker online at Empire Poker (fake money).
Funny, she was just talking to me about the Cherokee casino and would like to go there when the weather is descent enough. She is definitely getting "gambling fever".
