Hi, I am moving to the Charlotte area within the next two weeks (already have a job and I need some advice on high schools. I have a 9th and 10th grader. I'm looking for a lease/option on a 4bd/2ba house in the low $200,000's. I'm working in uptown and I would like to be within a 30 minute commute. I'm staying with family in Hickory and I have already started working and the commute is brutal. I was surprised to hear that the commute into uptown from most of the suburbs exceeds 45 minutes. I am obviously looking in the Meyers Park High School area, because it's a good school and the commute is great. I need some other options. I know Providence and Butler are good schools but what is the commute to uptown like? I've looked at some gorgeous homes in the Hopewell school district, but I'm worried about sending my kids to school there; any thoughts? Does anyone have kids at the new Mallard Creek high school? I've seen some homes there and the commute seems reasonable. Also, what about the Mt. Holly area: South Point or Forestville seem like good schools and the commute is good, but is there anything to do in Mt. Holly? Ok, enough rambling by me.. now it's your turn... I need all the advice I can get.

Default Huntersville

Thanks, I had heard the commute from Huntersville was at least 45minutes so I wasn't looking there but if it's under 30 minutes I'll check it out.

We almost didn't buy in Huntersville because we heard the commute would be bad. My husband works downtown. I know a lot of people have to have their car, but my husband drives 5 minutes to the park n ride and hops on a bus and he is uptown in about 20 -25 min. He reads the paper and relaxes to and from work. He wouldn't have it any other way. No traffic headaches, no parking costs. He comes home relaxes instead of stressed from the traffic.

Default Huntersville

Thanks, do you know anything about the high schools in the area? What are some good neighborhoods for a family with teenagers under $250,000?

There are plenty of options in the Huntersville area. There are two high schools that Huntersville feeds. Hopewell and North Meck. North Meck is the better of the two. The Mallard Creek High School is to new to call. They are also supposed to build another High School on Bailey Road in Cornelius.

Mount Holly does not go to South Point High in BELMONT.

Mount Holly goes to EAST GASTON in Mount Holly.

Both schools are fine as far as I know and the commute to Uptown from Belmont or Mount Holly would be about 30 minutes. You will have those days when it is in excess of 45min due to rain or in excess of 1hr due to wrecks.
