The Penguin...always on my list for any type of "good eats". It was also on Dinners, Dives and Drive ins on the food network.

I haven't been yet since I've been back to Charlotte, but one of my favorite "dives" is Lupie's Cafe.

mmm...There's a plate of Cincinnati Chili over there with my name on it...

My other favorite cheap-but-good-eats place is The Roasting Company. (http://roastingco.com/catalog/ - broken link)
I've had just about everything on the menu and never had a bad meal there.

Rats, now I'm hungry!

It's in Charlotte, on Montford Dr, which is a little road just off Park + Woodlawn, across from Angry Ale's (which I think you can see from Park.) Definitely worth checking out!

Absolutely. They now serve most of their menu at Alleycat uptown as well (this was the former Have a Nice Day Cafe).

It's not the full menu at alley cat, he atmosphere at Penguins is one of a kind. You sit and eat lunch with people in Suits and people with tattoos. It is a great time. Best Fried Pickles. Gosh I am hungry!!!
