Hello all,

I am moving to Charlotte from Greensboro early next month. My working area is in the E Independence Blvd( near coliseum Dr) zip code 28205. I am totally new to Charlotte so I need your help to decide the area where should I stay. My major concern is safety. Is it safe to live nearby my working place? Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am with spouse but no kids.

I found this forum as a great support for any newcomer like me.Thanks

Unfortunately, that is not a very nice part of town and I wouldn't suggest living near there! What will your budget be? There are areas (such as Matthews) where you could live with a decent commute.

Thanks for your prompt response. I am considering $500-$600/ month.

The location is not desirable at all. I assume you haven't visited the area. Come spend a weekend in Charlotte and get to know the surroundings area, please be sure to swing back around when its dark. While here check out apartment rentals. Do a search on rent.com and they have apts in your price range. Check back with bloggers on the site for more information on the complex.

Welcome to CLT rashbini. Don't be too worried about 28205. The immediate Coliseum area is not that great but close by are Elizabeth, Chantilly, Plaza Midwood, and Merry Oaks neighborhoods. All of them are nice places to live. However with your budget of 500-600 per month you might be hard pressed to find a safe place to live "anywhere" in CLT. Perhaps you should consider a roommate situation if possible. Check out Craigslist and search those areas I mentioned, you might be able to find something in the 600-800 range. Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for your suggestion. I am now considering Mathew areas. While searching apartments in Mathew areas I found these names. Can you please help me to figure it out whether it is good to live. I am also searching the crime rate from police department website. List of those places:

Mcalpine ridge, Krefeld Drive

Camden Forest, Copper Creek Ct

Colonial Village at Greystone, Stoney Glen Dr.

Mathews Crossing,Calibre Crossing Dr.

Cross Creek Apartments, Cross Point Circle

I don't think any of those places are too great - sorry!! Of the apartments in Matthews, probably one of the better ones is Paces Matthews. You can get in there for around $620 at a minimum. Here's a link:
Find Matthews apartments and homes for rent in the GREATER CHARLOTTE area at Paces Commons. (http://www.pacescommons.com/s/homepage - broken link)
You could also try the website Apartments in Charlotte, North Carolina
Also, this website has reviews:
Matthews Apartments for Rent with Ratings & Reviews by Matthews Renters at ApartmentRatings.com
Hope this helps!! I agree with the poster above that 500-600 won't get you much in Charlotte. You should consider a roommate!

Default where to live

Union county is great too! Cheaper taxes than Mecklenberg. The good areas to name a few Mint Hill, NC, Indian Trail, NC, Stallings, NC Ballantyne, Dillworth, Hembry Bridge all very nice places. Good Luck! I am glad you have a job. it is hard to find one!
