Why does Mecklenburg County still allow these 1992 type of developers to still gut the land and build cookie cutter developments?
Is there another way to build that isn't so ugly? Surely there is another way? This is happening all over Mecklenburg County. Are the developers paying off someone to not stop this?
This is one of the biggest reasons I can't wait to get out of here. It creates a horrible looking County.

Your outrage strikes me as more than a bit disingenuous. I don't think you really care about trees or quality development, you just love poking a stick at Charlotte (or more specifically, poking a stick at the people on this forum who like Charlotte and you know will defend her. A weird and immature little game).
Anyway, I hope you move soon to a true paradise that you love!

Thanks, I can always expect a rude comment from you on here.
As to the thread, I would love it if Charlotte would have become more of what I'm looking for and not have to move; kids want allow it at this time so you will get a few more years to rudely reply to my posts.
I was under the impression that Charlotte/Mecklenburg was on a turning point into what I was looking for back when I searched cities to move to, 2005. It did not turn in to what I researched at the time nor what my friends talked about. I jokingly complain to them for steering me wrong. They agree it did not go the way they thought either.
Yes to point out what I feel should change in the area is my opinion and I will express it, it doesn't mean you have to agree, read it or post on it. Nor do I expect the area to become into what I thought it was.
But, if someone is thinking of moving here and gets the how great it is, like I did, and finds out its just a bunch of cheap housing developments and more to come and that's not what their looking for then I saved them the trouble.

Great suggestion, just added you to my "ignore" list. Carry on!

Well yes, they could custom build, but that would price out a lot of people.
You remind me of a poster who goes on the Philadelphia board & rails about row houses. Single family homes have been the primary focus since the soldiers came home from WWII. They don't build houses to last anymore. Eventually, today's housing stock will be replaced.
Neighborhoods come & go from favor over time. In the mean time, plant a tree. Some day it will be a big old tree.

That response wasn't all that rude to be honest.
What things do you not like about Charlotte exactly?
Also, there are tons of non-cookie cutter neighborhoods that are dirt cheap. You have a fair amount of options from what I've seen this last week.

He has posted pretty rude comments on about every post I ever post. And that's OK, I don't mind to hear his opinions. That's why there was a smiley face on my comment back to him. And my "Good Choice" was meant as a comedic jester.
Things I don't like about Charlotte?.....I can list the big ones:
It's not a walkable place to live, car dependent
To many dated housing developments..and even the new ones being built today
To many big box shopping centers, good to be close but not everywhere
No street grid...urban living
Urban spawl of more of the same thing over and over (e.g. garage houses)
The area has no creativity
There are more, I know it's not the place for us, it did not become the place we thought it was in our research starting in 2002

Where did you move from? I ask because it seems like it's all relative. I'm living in Los Angeles and this was my first time in charlotte. My impression is that's it's a cross between a forest and where a bunch of dubai sheiks said "red bricks? Yes let's build our palaces out of red bricks in the middle of this forest. But let's make it insanely inexpensive because why not"
But the issues with strip malls and urban sprawl are funny to me because this place is tiny and It's nothing but forest along every road.
That being said I also don't care for urban living and there is no such thing as public transit in LA do car is mandatory so those aren't really issues.
I have lived all over, Alaska, Caribbean, England, NJ, Chicago, Charlotte (second go around here) and more. From Asheville originally. I have a lot to compare Charlotte too. I have a good idea what we are looking for. I know it's not Charlotte.
