Hi moving to Charlotte, NC in 16 days. Cannot wait. Anyway I need some help. Looking for a food establishment that serve "no pork on the menue. For health reasons my family and I don't consume pork. We do know we are moving to the south where pork is found abundant in most food establishment. We would like to know if we can eat in a resturant where pork is not being cooked. We are moving to Charlotte but it wouldn't matter where in NC. Really within reasonable distance we are willing to do. Love my barbecue; will cookout in a heartbeat but no PORK on the grill. Please help. Thank you.

I'd have this moved to the Charlotte sub-forum. You'll get better responses there.
Does the menu have to be completely pork free? I mean, is it an allergy issue where you can't have anything that's been cooked on the same grill?

There are so many different types of restaurants in Charlotte. But, the ones that are not specialized (Mexican, Seafood, Italian, etc.) almost always serve BBQ. Most BBQ restaurants also serve beef, which is why I asked the question above.

I can eat at a restaurant that serve pork but I can't eat it. I can eat off a grill that pork was cooked on but would prefer not to. I love barbecue beef ribs, turkey bacon and lamb chop. No allergies, although that sound good. Just for Health/Religious reasons. Any Jewish/Kosher restaurants in NC

Oh, and in NC "barbeque" is ALWAYS pork so don't ask for barbeque when you come here. Where I lived prior to Charlotte barbeque meant beef, but I learned pretty fast that is not the case here.

NEVER ask for BBQ in NC, then! If you don't specify, you'll ALWAYS be served pork!

Well, you can get BBQ'd chicken in some BBQ establishments. But right - when I lived in Kansas City . . . BBQ meant beef.

As for the OP - you are gonna have a challenge. Southerners also use bacon as a seasoning (or for wrapping steaks/scallops, etc). Better to post this on a different forum for restaurants/dining out.

Have you posted on "chowhound.com?"

The only kosher restaurant I've heard of is Gleiberman's.

Lots of Jews and Moslems around. They don't eat pork and don't look like they are starving. You'll be fine. You do realize that there are a kazillion restaurants in Charlotte that sell a huge variety of foods from all over the world aren't you?
