My family physician recommended a charlotte area neurologist to me about 2 years ago. This neurologist specialized in migraines. I did not go at the time because the waiting list was 6 months long (bad decision I now realize). Does anyone know who this neurologist is? ( Its Dr something-just kidding)
I cannot remember his name!!! I have tried the phone book. I have tried google.
Burgi, I don't know the neurologist that you are referring to, but I do have a recommendation. My husband goes to a delightful young woman named Andrea Diedrich. We are really impressed with her and recommend her without hesitation. She's at three offices; one of them is near where you live, I believe.
Does anyone have a number for Dr. Sacco; she was reccommended to me by my husbands MS specialist. If I can't see her, he also recommended Dr. Dietrich. I need to check and see if she takes my insurance. Other MDs in that practice do, but I do not see her. I am crossing my fingers! Glad to hear some positive feedback about her; I am very unhappy with who I am going to now.
I just hope she is omeone who listens to your concerns.
Good luck..I saw a neurologist in Concord for my migraines, who was okay...a coworker had recommended a place in Charlotte but I can't remember exactly where it was, I want to say it was a headache clinic at Carolina's Medical Center or affiliated with them at least- she said they didn't take insurance and were expensive but they helped. ?? Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Good luck finding a doctor who truly listens, as well. My experience with migraines is that often doctors are mediocre and do the same old, same old: prescribe antidepressants (Zoloft, Paxil, Effexor, Elavil) or anti-seizure (Keppra, Depakote, Topamax) drugs to prevent headaches, or beta blockers (Inderal) and then give triptans (Imitrex, Maxalt etc) and that's where it ends. If these don't help, which they don't for a lot of people, tough luck. But for a really good doctor who listens and is willing to work with you to find what works for YOU and understands what doesn't work...it can make all the difference in the world. My neurologist was pretty good in that he was willing to listen and use what worked and would prescribe strong enough pain medications until we did find what worked to prevent/lessen my headaches. But, he was in Concord, and also, I don't think he was necessarily a headache specialist, he just had a lot of headache patients. My headaches did get better and less frequent but I still get them. Good luck and hopefully it will ring a bell with someone, the headache clinic I am trying to think of in Charlotte. I do think it was at CMC, in the hospital?
Some primary care physicians/internal medicine are really good with headaches- mine in Concord was. She's still there, if you would ever be interested in going to Concord for treatment I can PM and let you know which neurologist I saw and also the internal medicine/primary care- she was really good and better than the neurologist!! She was the BEST at listening to concerns and had a lot of tricks in her bag to try.
Your orginal doctor should be able to help with the six month wait. If not, ask him what other neurologists he or she suggests?
Ask questions, don't stop until you get answers, or at least on the path to answers--there are quite a few excellent neurology specialists in Charlotte.
Since I live in Ft. Mill, Concord is a long way to go. If they are that good and are on my insurance it might be worth it. If you could get that infor to my BlueLily7 that would be great.
Also many thanks to cbj113072 for the info on Dr. Sacco
Hello there,
You are in luck! I am a fellowship-trained headache specialist from the Cleveland Clinic who will be joining the Presbyterian Neurology Group at Presbyterian Hospital in Center City, Charlotte in July. I will be full-time (and I also see "dizziness")
Unfortunately, I cannot answer questions regarding appointments, etc but you can call them and see what they can do for you in the meanwhile.
