My husband and I are relocating to Charlotte. The kids are out of the house now and we want to find a neighborhood that will suit us. We are hoping to find new construction in the Davidson, Cornelius, Concord, or NE Charlotte area in the $650K - $750K range. Would love to find an area where we're not the only ones without children. We like being around kids and work with a number of children's activities so don't get me wrong here. We just don't want to be that only "old couple" down the street! It looks like River Run is a good area. Are there other areas that are convenient and would suit our downsized life? I would love any advice!

As I was reading your post, I immediately thought "River Run," but then you mentioned it yourself! Maybe others will weigh in . . . I also thought about the Peninsula but frankly have not looked to see what the houses are selling for these days.

Check out golf course communities. You will find there are other empty nesters (as well as many other age groups) in those types of developments. If you want S. CLT, you might check out Piper Glen, Quail Hollow . . . I know you can find some homes in Piper Glen at that price point but I have not checked on Quail Hollow lately.

Maybe one of our realtors will see this post and give you a more accurate idea of what is available at the various country clubs and golf course developments in our area.

Good luck!!!! Let us know what you decide!!!

Providence Plantation is good. A very established mature neighborhood.

Providence Country Club...also an established mature neighborhood.

I know you said northeast Charlotte, but have you heard of Sun City down in Indian Land? This is a fantastic over 50 neighborhood with every amenity you could want.

All the above are great neighborhoods. In Cornelius they have started building a 50+ neighborhood that should be ready in the fall of '08.

Also many of the neighborhoods around here (at least in Huntersville/Cornelius) seem to have a good mix. For instance my neighbors directly are in there 80's and have adopted my kids (6 & 2) then down the street there are couples in there 60's. Yet, there are still younger couples with young kids. The diversity is great.

You will have plenty of options in you price point. Good Luck!!

Sounds like the kind of diversity we are looking for. Thanks everyone for the advice! We'll look at all of your recommendations.
