Hi everyone.
I'm looking to move in a few months, looking for a two bedroom home preferably in one of the suburbs 15-20 miles outside of charlotte (Belmont, Huntersville, Matthews...etc. Little sister is coming to live with me & I want her to feel safe here). I've lived in Charlotte a few months but hoping someone can help me with a few questions.

1.) Areas to stay away from (higher crime rates/poor schools--she'll be in high school)

2.) Anyone have an suggestions about where I can go to find a place? I'm searching craigslist and the paper daily, but wondering if there are any local listings that I don't know about. I would prefer not to go through a broker because I'm young and they don't usually take people my age seriously.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

oh, also I'm not looking for an apartment, I have two dogs so I need a house w/a back yard hopefully

Thanks

Well I work near the airport, but a safe neighborhood is my number one concern, I don't mind a 20-40 minute commute

In your price range, with a good high school being an important factor, you will want to look to live in Gaston County, not Charlotte. It is very difficult to get a rental home in a good area in Charlotte for under $1200. Additionally, consider going even further out to Clover, SC - you could be at the airport in about 40 minutes but would be in a very safe area with more affordable housing. Best of luck to you!
