It's a longshot, but I figure I'll have a "leg up" by doing this.
My buddy is fairly established as a manager at Avis at Dulles Airport right now in NoVa. He *should* be able to transfer to CLT fairly easily and has actually already been down to check out the job and the town.
My girlfriend here at school has a friend down there that has a place and her father is on the crew for the Geico car. Sorry, I'm not into Nascar, I know it's probably a sin down here, but I'm trying to get into it and will be trying to get to the Crown Royal 400 in Richmond this year. Point being, my girlfriend will most likely be moving down there, so I will have friends which is a good thing.
Anyway, me and my buddy should potentially be able to afford a 130K house on the high end. We would prefer to buy and play the market until I get serious about marrying my girlfriend, if it works out.
I am graduating with degrees in Communications and Advertising degrees and have been trying to look for jobs with BoA that I like. Is there any other employers down there where my degree may work out that are good to work for?
Basically, we are going to come and look and get it down to an area we would like to live in. Most likely, I will be working uptown (hopefully) and he will be working at the airport. What is a good safe neighborhood that will be good for early 20's college grads?
We are not opposed to renting for a while, but ultimately want to buy, because both he and I are very into investing and making smart decisions. I should have about 20 grand to put down and he may be able to match that, we are looking for pay about 1250 after utilities with this down payment.
We are not opposed to condo living as long as there's 2 bedrooms/bathrooms minimum and easy enough for me to have my dog there.
Any areas? Suggestions? I've been trying to keep my eye on houses that fit in our price range, but have no idea other than the section they are in. I think I like Lake Norman and seems like it may be easy enough of a commute for both of us, but have no idea until I get down there. I guess we wouldn't be opposed to moving just south of the border if it's a cheaper and better area.
Any help? I'll direct him to this thread and I'm sure he'll check it out as well.

Since wvuwhat was the original starter of this thread he can change its direction to ask other questions if he wants - which he did. We just answered him.

Hee Hee Hee. Loves, Methinks we have a new thread mommy . . .
There are so many corporations here . . . I would just start googling Fortune companies and check out their corporate websites for communications/advertising jobs. Do you have a portfolio?
If you were my son, I would agree that it would probably be best that you rent for a while, look around and see what fits you best.
You may find the golf fees are reasonable enuff at many of the courses that you won't feel it necessary to get a membership . . . or you may want to wait til you buy a house and purchase a home near a golf course you like.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll get this thread back on topic. Basically, where is an area that I can commute to uptown and he can commute to the airport where we're able to get a 2+/2+ condo, townhouse, home for under 130K. Walking is a plus especially if I can get to a Target, Harris Teeter, Best Buy, etc.

Back to the Point.
I do a lot of business in the Windsor Park area. It's a nice neighborhood where you can find homes for $130,000 or less. Down point is you can't really walk anywhere.
You may also be interested in Commonwealth. There area some 2 bedroom 1.5 bath condos for just under $130,000. This area has a lot of 20-30 something’s living there. You could walk to Harris Teeter, and also to some bars, restaurants, and the quarterly gallery crawl.
There are some condos in Dilworth that occasionally come up for about $130,000, but they sell within a day, so you have to jump on them right away. They are within walking distance to a lot of grocery stores, restaurants, and shops.
There are some places in South Charlotte that would fit your budget, but you should know the commute to uptown is a popular one. There is the light rail, but it doesn't go to the airport.

Good Luck.
