Hi - we've got our house here in NJ on the market and will be coming down to the Charlotte area when it eventually sells. My sister-in-law lives in Waxhaw (Somerset) and has advised us to not consider Mecklenburg county due to the busing situation and the uncertainty of which school kids may end up in each year. I'd be very interested in hearing thoughts from the folks on this board and their opinions on this. Thanks!

Not sure what you're thinking of? We haven't had bussing in 6 or so years.

That is really good to know. My SIL had moved down there around 6 years ago from Gettysburg and at that time, it was a concern for them. I'm very glad to hear that Mecklenburg doesn't do bussing anymore as that opens up the area's we'll be able to look in to. Thanks so much for a speedy response.

You s-i-l has Charlotte confused with Raleigh. Charlotte has neighborhood schools. Just a tip, chose a neighborhood that is not in the middle of ongoing development and your child will have a 99% chance of staying in that school until he ages out. Pick a home in a growing, developing area and your child may have to change schools at least once as new schools are built. But that's true in southwest Union county too.
