Hello everyone. I'm new to the board and I'm looking for a little advice on Charlotte, NC. I currently live in FL. I've lived here all my life and I'm looking for a change. Currently I'm eligible to teach in FL, but not yet certified. In order for me to become certified I need to find a job. I'm sick of FL and now interested in moving to NC. Does anyone know the qualifications for becoming a teacher in Charlotte, NC? Also, what's the best, safest areas to live and work?
You should have no problems in north Mecklenburg. Look in the towns around Lake Norman, the safest part of the region. Towns include Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson; also try east Lincoln county; and Mooresville which is in Iredell county.

Union County is the 7th fastest growing county in the US and I think 5th largest school system. However, Union County is one of the highest performing systems period. I would check with HR in any county or call to ask for a licensure (sp) specialist. I think you would need to (assuming you have a degree), take and pass the praxis tests for what ever area you want to teach in. Example, if you want to teach elem school, take the 2 elem praxis tests. I will warn you that FL has many alternatives to licensure that NC does not recognize.

Although N.C. particpates in the receiprical teaching program, per se., there are tests (Praxis, etc) that you will need to complete to become certified. However, you will be allowed to work for one year while achieving the prerequisites needed for N.C. It is easier in S.C. in case you wish to work across the border. By the way, teaching in Meck. Co. pays lots more than here in Florida where I live.
Work for Rowan-Salisbury School System. Live in China Grove, NC. It is between Charlotte and Winston Salem/Greensboro.
