There are video poker machines in a lot of gas stations that actually pay out, and then you have people renting strip mall shops and buildings and putting a lot of lights on them advertising as arcades that also do payouts. Can we just get licensed casinos and get rid of all the underworld criminal stuff?

They're "skill games". There was an article on charlotte observer a few months back on them.

Write to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and tell them you support the Catawba application for a casino near Kings Mountain.

When I was a Uber driver in the area the local one had a parking lot full 24/7 and a lot of old ladies and "street money" types. My local gas station has video poker that does payout too.. If you go to a Vegas casino most of the floor is filled with identical machines..

I wonder how they file that revenue on their taxes? I remember when that got you a free raid by the FBI or secret service

Yeah, they're sketchy as can be, and they're all over the state, not just the Charlotte area. I know some of them absurdly claim to be "business centers" (or even classier "biz" centers ) and advertise that you can copy, fax, etc.

But looking at some online reviews of these fine establishments, the patrons aren't talking about making copies of their insurance paper work to send to their bank. They are talking about winning money and free spins. And some of these places have tinted windows and "Open 24 Hours" signs that make them look more like a 1970's Times Square peep show joint than a place you'd stop by to fax an important document to your insurance agent.

I wonder if someone walked in and asked for help faxing something what kind of bewildered look they would get from Big Bruno, the casino, ahem...I mean "business center" bouncer..., ahem, I mean "attendant".

The machines constantly evolve to stay ahead of what laws are put in place. They're probably the most profitable business you can get into for under $100k.

A couple people I know told me they are at a near break-even point in the first couple days of being up and running. They've had machines paid off in 24 hours on occasion. Gamblers are going to gamble.

I don't understand the difference in this and running a poker table on a commercial zone parcel of land? The stuff I've seen you can't even get in Harrah's or the sleazy Florida casinos..

I remember the feds use to run up on gas stations like the agents in The Matrix for this stuff not too long ago.. Out in Vale they stormed the building and put everyone in prison and condemned the property for having the exact same machines.. Here cops idle and eat donuts out in front..

The cops will be on them in a hurry as soon as they're told to move on these places. There probably isnt much reason for it right now.
