To help with this discussion I will be working at 128 South Tryon Street
Charlotte, NC - which (correct me if I am wrong) is downtown? I will be working 1st shift so I would have to start by 7 am I assume.

As I stated earlier we would like to live in a nice neighborhood with a good high school that will allow us to have the additional garage space. Lake access is not important to us. A safe community is since we have children.

Currently my commute in Milwaukee is about 30 miles and I do drive 80 mph (lol) so since it is all expressway I can get to work in just about 30 minutes. I would prefer to not drive that far if possible but could live with it if I had to.

ajjodie this area of Charlotte on the map is really nice and peaceful. It has not been overly saturated with development like the rest of the city is. Gorgeous large size homes but Lincoln County, (Denver is a wise choice) is better with their school system.
Now there is a loophole for ya! Hey, I know a lot of people who will tell you they can make it from Union county to uptown in a half hour too....again, this forum is to INFORM people. I stick by what I said.

Didn't see your note..expect 45 minutes from Denver with average traffic to that spot.

If you want the the absolute hidden gem in Charlotte, look at the Stonehaven neighborhood...nice mature tree canopy, friendly neighbors, qualilty built brick homes priced mostly in the uppers $200s-$400k. It's about 15 minutes from downtown (6-7 miles). It is easily the best value price per sq.ft. in Charlotte. Just go to Allen Tate.com and type in Stonehaven to see what's available. You will not regret it.

Denver or Mt. Holly. It depends on where in Charlotte you are going to work.

Your job location will be in the heart of uptown Charlotte. With teenagers I feel you need to be very careful where you choose to live in order to have access to the best high schools. I would highly recommend south Charlotte or Matthews. You would be within 20 miles of uptown (in some places closer than that) and have about a 35-45 minute commute depending on where in south Charlotte of Matthews you would be. The traffic can be an aggravation during rush hour, but if your hours are as early as you think the commute would be a pretty good one.

I just moved from WI to the Denver, NC area and love it! Not sure how long of a commute for you though (maybe mapquest it from hwy 16 to downtown?) Denver is starting to grow now with the new walmart and lowes. North Lincoln High School is a new school and good from what I hear (brother goes there). I would stay away from East Lincoln High School though if you do choose Denver - I hear it's going downhill.

I live in Denver at 16 and Webbs road. My commute to South Charlotte at exit 1 on I-77 is 40 minutes using the new 485 Loop (35 miles from my house). I leave for work at 6:15 and I always get there fine.
