Well now that we decided to relocate, I realize that the banks that I have accounts with up here in NY do not have branches in the Charlotte area. I will have to change over all of my accounts and I was just wondering what everyone's opinion was the best bank for basic personal checking and savings needs....Wachovia? SunTrust? Thanks!

We bank with BB&T as our mortgage is there also. We were with BOA for many years but some of their policies on joint accounts made banking there inconvenient for us.

I bank with BB&T. Was with BOA for years before going to work at BB&T (now work somewhere else). They're both fine, liked BOA's online banking better.

I'm pretty happy with Wachovia. Checking, savings, mortgage. My company uses Wachovia, so I get a few extra benefits of their "Wachovia @ Work" program, too.
I also use Truliant Credit union for car loans.

BofA has huge fee's and crazy hold policies for check deposits.

I used wachovia when it was free for me, afterwards I went to BofA. I couldn't get out of BofA quick enough. Now, I'm sold on credit unions. Plus, from what I read there's alot of unrest at Wachovia these days.

Credit unions are good, but I do use bofa and I can't complain. The bank of america that I go to in the Harris Teeter is easy and convient and they are always very friendly. There online banking is very good and I love the fact that I can transfer $ to friends or anyone who has a bofa acct. Don't know what crazy hold policies they have? I've never had any problems depositing checks, they have always cleared within 24 hours of depositing.

That's odd. My checks clear the same day that they are deposited.

I use BB&T and they are always very helpful. Just yesterday they gave me 300 penny rollers for my class to roll their pennies we raised for Relay for Life.

We just opened an account at Wachovia a month ago and have had nothing but problems with them. I have had to call their service center 4-5 times in the last 3 weeks for several different things.

We are still living in PA, so we were very specific about wanting things sent up here. The ATM cards came here, the PINs didn't. They are lost in limbo somewhere! I called and got mine activated and she said they would send out another PIN.....went DOWN THERE again (did get forwarded by the PO this time). They refused to activate my husband's card unless HE called even though it's a JOINT account!! First checks came up here but were incorrect due to Wachovia error. I called to have them re-done.......yep, got sent down there and I was told that the PO wouldn't forward them. Who knows where they are??? PLUS they charged me again for the second set of checks! So I called the branch directly and the lady refunded the money and had them re-done and sent out correctly on a rush order, but I'm really concerned where the other box is.

The reason we opened this account was so that we could fund it from our account up here as needed, and not just for the initial deposit as the other banks would do. But when I went to put in $5000, it told me that the max was $2000/day. So I had to do it over 3 consecutive days. Easy???...NOT!! My second request to transfer was cancelled. I called to find out why and their computers were down so the guy couldn't tell me. I called back several hours later only to have a woman tell me that I had to wait until it actually got deposited and cleared before I could do another request!! WTH???? It shouldn't be this hard to GIVE money to Wachovia!!

Once we actually move down there full time I serious think I'm going to close that account and go somewhere else.......BB&T is looking good right now because they are going to build a branch about .5 mile from our house.
