Just wanted to share what a great experience we had this week at Hall Family Farm picking strawberries! We're new here, so I imagine many of you are familiar with it. However, it was our first time and it was just wonderful. We picked a ton of gorgeous berries (very reasonably priced) and had a great time. If anyone hasn't been there, here is the website. It's a great morning activity before it gets too hot, and the strawberries are delicious! It was certainly a great thing to do on a non-preschool morning! Supporting a local farm and business is nice, too!

Hall Family Farm
This is ALWAYS one of my favorite things to do here in the spring!! I was even hoping to go this weekend One of the best tasting things in the world is a piece of fruit or a vegetable you have just picked yourself!

I totally agree! Except, of course, it's a piece of fruit you picked topping some ice cream...

I love Hall..been the last couple of weekends...the Chandler strawberries are the bomb. The stores don't sell that variety because they go bad quickly. They are 10x sweeter than regular strawberries and JUICIER. I plan on going again tomorrow. They have yet to use any pesticides on the crop this year too because the ladybugs have been eating the "bad" bugs. I also got a head of romaine which they grow and that was some good stuff too. They have wildflower raw honey from the farm for sale too. Springs farm also has pick ylour own on the weekends.

I saw that honey, Groove, and was tempted to get some. The lettuce looked awesome, too. Two boys to chase, though, and didn't have time to peruse them properly.

Here is some more info regarding the farm, though the link to the Observer article is expired:

ballantynedaily.blogspot.com: Hall Family Farm Resists Development Pressures

If you enjoy that farm there is a good apple orchard place in York that gets running in the fall.

PickYourOwn.Org link to a farm website at http://www.windyhillorchard.com

Also, take the kids on the train or trolley to this on Saturday:

Charlotte Tailgate Farmers Market
And Springs farm has some awesome peaches which will be ready in June

Thanks to everybody for the great info! We are coming down the week of Memorial Day (arriving about midnight on Friday) and I was hoping to get some great locally grown food to have for the week. I just hope there are strawberries left that time of year down there.

OHMYGOSH, I am in serious danger of od'ing on strawberries over here folks! I went yesterday to pick some at Hall's and they are SOOOOOOO good! I think I've had nothing but strawberries to eat since yesterday, LOL! They told me they expect to have berries until the end of May, so anyone who hasn't gone yet - DO NOT MISS IT. These are the sweetest strawberries I have ever tasted!
