What is that rank smell that smells almost like sewage? Have worked in Ballantyne only 3 weeks and have smelled it like 3 times already. Is there a sewage plant nearby...or what is it?

I've never smelled it? There is a lot of land developement going on up by you. (Torington?) I wonder if they are working on the sewage?
We were eating in Pei Wei on Conlan Circle and came out and you could smell it. It wasn't actually in Toringdon...but I have smelled it over there too.
Maybe they were working on the sewage lines or something...didn't think about that.
Unfortunately I have a very very keen nose...usually it is towards food though...lol!
There is a sewage plant on Old Pineville Road, north of the intersection with Ballentyne Commons Parkway going towards Carolina Place Mall. It is a Mecklenburg treatment plant and sits between the mall and Sam's Club on one side and Henson's Mulch is on the other side of Old Pineville. That is most likely what you smelled. The wife and I were at Pei Wei last night, didn't notice anything fragrant.
It's a water treatment plant right off Lancaster Hwy. Every now and then the wind will carry the smell over towards the Ballantyne area. If you look on google maps at an aeral you can see it.

Yup, and I usually smell it right at the intersection of Johnston & 485, when you cross the overpass. It seems to stay right around there though.
We have always assumed it was from McAlpine Creek. DH and I remark on it regularly. You get on Johnston heading to 485 and you will smell it. Some days, worse than others.
Never smelt anything, and I drive to Johnston/485 twice a day for school dropoff/pickup. Also eat at Pei Wei once a week. All I smell is yummy stuff over there!
