Can anyone tell me what a "protected work day" is? On the calendar there are days with stars around them that say this. Are the students off on these days? I never heard of these days in NY - maybe they are just called something else (?)

Im in CMS, our teachers have these also, I think they are days that can not be used as make up dates, kind of like guaranteed days. I could totally be wrong though, just my guess.

They are teacher work days and students do not come. A protected work day means that it can NOT be used as a make-up day. Unprotected work days can be used for make-up days if school gets cancelled. So, I would avoid planning anything during unprotected days. School could be held! Especially the unprotected days in Feb and March.
