We are preparing for another trip down to NC from NJ later this spring or summer. We have done a lot of narrowing down and are currently looking for land or farm (or acreage that can be subdivided). We want at least 15 acres-20 acres (preferably that can be subdivided to be gifted to our kids).
We are looking for nice towns to explore around Lake Norman (within an hour or so), but preferably to the northern side.
I am trying to do as much research as possible but there are so many towns so any input on towns I can add to my list is appreciated. I have a few names of towns from previous posts of mine but wanted to check and see if there are any more I should look into.

I'd make sure to do research on the cancer clusters in that entire area. It goes fairly far up and its growing
Can you please site a source for your information.
There's a lot of information about it in the area mom's groups. Moms of kids that have passed from different cancers in the area. There is something wrong. I believe thyroid cancer was designated a cluster. There's testicular, eye, and thyroid. It's not just this area though it's across the US.

I don't deny it is there, but I doubt it's on the increase and spreading as has been stated. There have been just over 20 cases in the past 8 years, while 5-8 cases per million people per year is the national average.
I do think it's odd that the majority of the earliest recorded cases have a connection to Hopewell High School.
I'd guess less than 200,000 people live in the area between Cornelius and Mooresville and over to Denver.
This area isn't even represented on the designated cluster map as a highly dangerous area compared to other areas of other states.
Evidently living in New England has some posters taking on a Paul Revere persona.

I think that coal ash was used somewhere close to Hopewell. It was used all around the lake area, Huntersville for years. There's a sinkhole off of 150 and somehow coal ash is involved. All around nuclear plants there are cancer cases...it's not a coincidence as it's the same thing across the country.
I don't know of any high number of cases in my area of Cab county. My neighborhood is only 16 years old and maybe that's the difference.
