Do you mean - as in day trips? Like to the zoo? Or mountains? Can you give us some idea about the ages of the kids? Into active stuff like hiking? How far do you want to drive? Need more info to really be of help . . .

I would like to do something this weekend. Maybe hiking. Maybe within 1 1/2 hr drive. Or are there any festivals or anything this weekend?

nice day trip but they do have a campground which would make a very interesting entertaining camp fire.

For some close hiking check out Crowders Mountain on the other side of Gastonia. Take exit 13 off of I 85 south. It makes for a pleasant day - especially if you hike from one access area thru the woods to the other (someone in the parking lot will usually give you a lift back to your car in the other lot if you don't feel like hiking miles back).

I'd take them out to a ball game and then to see the Indy movie

You can do that just about anywhere in NC/SC.
