From this board I have heard that CMS schools are not good. Are there any areas within 30-45 mins from Uptown that have exceptional schools? Lets assume price is not a factor.

Can you tell me what areas have the best schools and what the cost for a new contruction or very nice 5BR home would be in that area?

Hi
Try iredell county.Price really depends on whether you are zip 28117 28115 and then whether you are near/on the Lake (Norman). Mooresville and Brawley middle schools are good and Lake Norman high and another one in 28117 (Lake side of the I77) is pretty good too. Check out greatschools.net.

Can't go wrong with Mooresville City Schools. Some of the best schools in the State, if not Country.

You can actually find some very good schools in the CMS system. Myers park High, Providence High, North Meck. are all very good schools.

Although I do agree that CMS has a ways to go when it comes to improving itself and its image.

I graduated from North Meck, and cannot say "Very Good" describes it, not even "Good" describes it. The hallways look like a Tokyo commuter train, gang members galore (even though CMS fails to even recognize they have a gang problem), sink or swim attitude, terrible administration, so much “stuff” goes on at that school that you’ll never hear on the news, etc. etc. etc…

Sure there are a FEW exceptions in CMS schools, but overall CMS fails to deliver the goods.

Why would you want to settle with sub-standard education when you have Union County, Iredell-Statesville, and Mooresville City Schools, right over the border with in that 30-45 min. range.

Once again I'll disagree with you on North Meck.

Just giving out some suggestions, a 30-45 minute commute can get old very fast.

Thanks for the great feedback.

You didn't ask me but I'll throw my two cents in anyway

If price is of no concern, for the best locations within 20 minutes of uptown look at the Southpark area, Dilworth, Elizabeth - or for BIG bucks, Myers Park or Eastover.

If you want to tell us how much you can really spend we could all better advise you
